Women's soccer runs unbeaten streak to five with win over Howard

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 19, 2010) – The Saint Francis women's soccer team upped its record to 6-2-1 on Sunday by defeating Howard University, 3-0, in Washington, D.C. With the win, the Red Flash clinched their third victory in a row and ran their unbeaten streak to five matches.

Freshman Barbara Maros de Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Coraco de Jesus) (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Caraco de Jesus) scored the only goal the Red Flash would need with just under a minute to go in the first half. The tally – which was assisted by sophomore Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) – was Maros de Carvalho's third in as many games.

In the 60th minute, sophomore defender Jennifer Brennan (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (Northport, N.Y./Northport) notched the assist as McKibben added Saint Francis' first insurance goal from 18 yards out on the left side.

Junior Traci Flick (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) added her second goal of the season – an unassisted tally with about 90 seconds remaining in regulation – to close out the scoring.

Senior goalkeeper Lauren Fearer (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant Area) (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant Area) earned the shutout victory with a five-save performance.

Saint Francis held a commanding 18-to-8 advantage in shots on the day. Senior midfielder Haleigh Dunyon (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson) (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson) led SFU with six shots, including three of the team's nine shots on goal.

The Red Flash opens conference play on Sunday when they visit Robert Morris for a noon contest. With a win or tie, SFU can clinch the first unbeaten September in program history.
