SFU Set To Host 1st annual Alicia Richardson Sports 4 Kids Day

Saint Francis University was devastated when former Red Flash women's volleyball player Alicia Richardson suddenly passed away on Jan. 8th.

But her memory lives on at the university and in its community. Saint Francis will host the 1st annual Alicia Richardson Sports 4 Kids Day in honor of her love for teaching, interacting with children, and playing sports. The event will be held on Saturday, March 10th from 3:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., at the Stokes Athletics Center.

The event is free for children in kindergarten through eighth grade, and prizes will be given to the best athlete at each sport.

The goal will be for the participants to visit stations that will be set up to experience what each sport has to offer them. Participants will interact with Red Flash student-athletes at each station in various interactive activities. Some stations will provide the participants with an opportunity to play an active role in free throw shooting, football tossing, soccer skills or a golf putt-putt course, and some stations will be educational in nature.

Some of the Saint Francis athletics teams that will be participating are men's and women's basketball, football, cheerleading, women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer, women's swimming, men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's cross country and track & field, women's lacrosse and field hockey.

Prizes will be distributed at the end of the event to the individual who exhibits the best athletic achievement at each respective station. A special surprise door prize will also be given to each participant who attends the Sports 4 Kids Day.

In addition to the Alicia Richardson Sports 4 Kids Day, all participants are encouraged to stay and watch the 15th-ranked Saint Francis men's volleyball team play a pivotal EIVA Tait Division match against George Mason at 7 p.m. Admission is free to all, and the public is encouraged to wear white as Saint Francis Athletics is calling for a “white out” at DeGol Arena for the volleyball match.

All questions or comments should be directed to Craig Theissen via phone at 814-472-2785, or via e-mail at ctheissen@francis.edu.

Saint Francis is asking for those interested in participating to RSVP to Craig Theissen by the end of business on Feb. 28. Due to the indoor nature of the event, attendance will be restricted to ensure the safety of participants during the event.

If you are looking for a great family day of sports, education and interaction, the 1st annual Alicia Richardson Sports 4 Kids Day is a wonderful opportunity for you and your family.
