SFU suffers three set loss to Sacred Heart

Box Score

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (Oct. 16, 2011)
– The Saint Francis University women's volleyball team suffered an 0-3 loss (23-25, 18-25, 10-25) to the Northeast Conference's first place team, Sacred Heart Sunday afternoon.

In the opening set, the Red Flash (7-16, 2-6) found themselves behind by a large margin as the set neared its end. With the Pioneers (17-6, 7-1) ahead 21-14, Saint Francis did its best at mounting a comeback as they tallied nine of the final 13 points scored in the set, although it would not be enough to push them past Sacred Heart.

In the remaining two sets, Saint Francis fell behind in the early goings and could not find ways to recover and string points together.

Amanda Zahumensky (Sarver, Pa./Freeport Area) and Breanna Kochinsky (Nicktown, Pa./Northern Cambria) both came two kills shy of recording double-doubles on the day. Both Zahumensky and Kochinsky notched eight kills and 13 digs apiece, to lead the offensive and defensive efforts.

Saint Francis is next in action a week from today, Oct. 23 when they travel to Teaneck, N.J. to do battle with Fairleigh Dickinson.
