Flash snap four-match slide

Kochinsky posts third consecutive double-double

Box Score

LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 29, 2011)
– The Saint Francis University women's volleyball team snapped a four-game slide Saturday afternoon at DeGol Arena by downing St. Francis (N.Y.) 3-1 (25-13, 23-25, 25-12, 25-16).

In the opening set, the Terriers (1-27, 0-12) kept the score close with the Red Flash (8-18, 3-8) a third of the way through, until SFU started to put some points between them. St. Francis (N.Y.) managed to bring the score to 9-9 at one point, but the Flash allowed just four more Terrier points to be scored from there as they rolled to a first set win.

Set number two was as back and forth as any. Neither squad could grab a lead of more than one point until the Terriers did just that when they held a 14-12 advantage. Directly after they grabbed that lead, the Flash scored three points in a row, to get a lead of their own. It wasn't until late in the set that someone held a few point lead, as SFC earned set point at 24-20.
Saint Francis wasn't done just yet though, they tried to make things interesting by scoring three points in a row to draw themselves to within one point. The Terriers put down the final kill of the set however, and tied the match at one set a piece.

Saint Francis poured it on in the third set by jumping out to an 11-3 lead early on and did not look back from there. The Terriers accumulated a stretch of four consecutive points at one instance in the match but it was not enough to take the third set victory away from the Red Flash.

With the Flash up 2-1, they looked to close out the match for good in the fourth set. Once again, SFU rolled its way through the set, scoring eight consecutive points in the middle of the set. St. Francis (N.Y.) struggled in recovering from that and found themselves on the losing side of the ball.

With a team attack percentage of .422, that shatters the previous season-best percentage of .306, which was set back in the team's first weekend of action against Howard.

Sophomore Breanna Kochinsky (Nicktown, Pa./Northern Cambria) had another big day for the Flash as she picked up her sixth double-double of the season and third consecutive by tallying a team-best 17 kills and 14 digs. This also marks Kochinsky's eighth game in a row with double digit figures in digs. Kochinsky also compiled a .536 attack percentage in today's contest.

Finishing just behind Kochinsky in total kills is junior Elizabeth Williams (North Bend, Ohio/Saint Ursula) who registered 16 kills, good for a .560 attack percentage, and added four blocks to her efforts. Classmate Lauren Wingard (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) also recorded double digit kill numbers by notching 11 and had a team-high five blocks. The newly implemented setter combination of Kierstin Kiser (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) and Logan Meinert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) dished out 56 assists, 36 of which came from Kiser, and 20 from Meinert.

Saint Francis gets right back at it tomorrow afternoon when the NEC's top team, Long Island, visits Loretto for a 1 p.m. matchup at DeGol Arena.
