Saint Francis Falls to Robert Morris, 45-14

Nielson posts solid numbers in first start

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa.
– The Saint Francis University football team fell to Robert Morris Saturday in the first ever night game at Joe Walton Stadium, 45-14.
 
The Colonials (2-3, 2-0) racked up 35 first-half points, 21 off three Red Flash (1-5, 0-4) turnovers, and never looked back. Corey Nielsen (Cerritos, Calif./Gahr ) earned the start at quarterback and went 14-of-23 for 150 yards and two touchdowns. Kyle Harbridge (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) racked up 86 yards on the ground but it was not enough against the defending Northeast Conference champions.
 
Robert Morris grabbed the lead in the first quarter on a 24-yard touchdown pass to Shadrae King from Jeff Sinclair. The touchdown pass came directly after a pass interference call that gave the Colonials a first down on third and long. Robert Morris extended its lead in the second quarter when Jeff Sinclair broke out of the pocket and ran 64-yard for the Colonials' second score of the game. King picked up his second score of the game on a 16-yard pass from Sinclair in the second quarter at the 7:36 mark. Robert Morris added two more scores in the final 1:50 of the first half and took a 35-0 lead into the half.
 
The Colonials continued to press their advantage in the second half with a 6-yard touchdown run by Duane Mitchell, capping a six play 39-yard drive.
 
Saint Francis got on the scoreboard at the 4:17 mark of the third quarter as Nielson connected with Anthony Howze (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) for a 56-yard touchdown. Robert Morris added a 32-yard field goal at the start of the fourth quarter to push the advantage to 45-7. Kevin Parker (Monessen, Pa./Monessen) scored his first touchdown of the season off a 12-yard pass from Nielson with 7:34 left in regulation. The score capped SFU's best drive of the night of 10 plays 80 yards.
 
The Flash struggled early with turnovers with two lost fumbles and two Nielson interceptions both of which were tipped at the line. Sinclair rushed for 110 yards for Robert Morris and two TDs to add to his passing totals. Anthony Bowman (Damascus, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) posted his third 16 tackle game of the season to lead the Flash, while Starr Sua-Passi (Honolulu, Hawaii/Saint Louis High School) posted four tackles and an interception after his big week agianst Albany.
 
Saint Francis returns to action next week as the travel to Sacred Heart to take on the Pioneers, kickoff is set for noon.
