Monmouth Slips by Saint Francis on Senior Day

Harbridge goes for 197-yards against the Hawks.

LORETTO, Pa.
– The Saint Francis football fell to Monmouth Saturday in the team's homecoming game, 48-45, at DeGol Field.
 
The Red Flash (2-8, 1-6) fell to the Hawks (2-8, 1-6) despite another tremendous rushing effort from Kyle Harbridge (Easton, Pa./Easton Area), who set a new single season rushing record for the Flash with a 197-yard rushing performance. Saint Francis held a fourth quarter lead but it slipped away.
 
Harbridge scored the first of the three touchdowns on the day on the opening drive of the game. Harbridge capped an 11-play 66-yard drive with a five-yard scoring run to give SFU the early advantage. Monmouth's Julian Hayes closed the scoring gap with a 3-yard touchdown run of his own with 5:26 left in the quarter. SFU blocked Monmouth's extra point attempt to keep SFU ahead, 7-6. Josh Thiel (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) made it a 10-6 Red Flash advantage with a school record 47-yard field goal with 1:25 remaining in the first frame.
 
The Hawks shook lose in the second quarter putting together three unanswered touchdown drive to give Monmouth a 27-10 advantage. Craig Peterson highlighted his big day with two touchdown passes during the stretch, the Monmouth quarterback finished the day with 316-yards passing on 20-of-29 passing. The Red Flash cut into the lead just before the half with a 10-play 58-yard drive capped by a two-yard touchdown run by Harbridge.
 
Harbridge made it a 27-24 game with a 78-yard touchdown run, the run was the fourth Harbridge scamper of 75-yards or more this season. Marcus Pollard pushed the Monmouth advantage back to 10 with a 52-yard punt return to give Monmouth a 34-24 advantage. Keion Wade (East Orange, N.J./East Orange) cut the Hawks lead to three with a 10-yard rush with 5:13 left in the third quarter. Hayes made it a 41-31 game with a 26-yard touchdown run at the 2:37 mark of the third. In the final play of the third, John Kelly (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) rushed for a score from 16-yards to make it a 41-38 game headlining into the fourth quarter.
 
Mike Dennis (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) set up the go ahead drive for the Red Flash with his second interception in as many weeks. A.J. Alexander (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) snuck behind the Hawks defense and Kelly found him to give SFU a 45-41 advantage with 12:44 left in regulation. Hayes capped off an 11-play 91-yard drive with a seven-yard scored to give the Hawks a lead they would not relinquish. Saint Francis tried to rally with a late drive but it drive was derailed by a tipped ball interception by Kelly.
 
Saint Francis returns to action next weekend in its regular season finally with a road trip to Smithfield, R.I.  against Bryant, kickoff is set for noon.
