Flash outlast Bryant 3-2 on the road

Kochinsky posts seventh double-double of the season

Box Score

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (Nov. 6, 2011)
– The Saint Francis University women's volleyball team concluded its season road trip by picking up a 3-2 (19-25, 25-14, 25-18, 17-25, 17-15) win at Bryant Sunday afternoon, which gives them the season sweep over the Bulldogs.

Bryant (13-17, 7-7) jumped out to the early 1-0 match lead after taking the opening set, but the Red Flash (9-20, 4-10) battled back to earn the next two set wins and eyed up a four-set victory. Bryant did its part in making sure the match remained alive by securing a fourth set win, and setting up a shootout to the finish in the final set.

There would be no clear cut winner until the very end of the fifth and final set between these two squads as the score was set at 15 all and a little bit of overtime would be needed to determine a winner. Thanks to a ball handling error on Bryant and a kill from junior Elizabeth Williams (North Bend, Ohio/Saint Ursula), the Flash put down the final two points of the set to take the set and the match.

Sophomore Breanna Kochinsky (Nicktown, Pa./Northern Cambria) notched her seventh double-double of the season by way of her 11 kill, 15 dig performance against the Bulldogs. Pacing the team's offensive attack were juniors Lauren Wingard (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) and Williams who each recorded 14 kills. Wingard also posted four blocks and compiled a team-best .560 attack percentage.

The setter combination of Logan Meinert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and Kierstin Kiser (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) produced 49 total assists with Meinert dishing out 26 of those and Kiser picking up 23. Sophomores Brittany Stambaugh (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and Leeanne Haus (Mars, Pa./North Allegheny) ended their days in double-digit figures in digs as Stambaugh had a team-high 19 and Haus produced 12.

Saint Francis returns home this weekend for its final two regular season matches, beginning first on Saturday when Sacred Heart visits Loretto for a 1 p.m. start time at DeGol Arena.
