Red Flash Drop NEC Twinbill at Fairleigh Dickinson

TEANECK, N.J.  (Apr. 9, 2011) – The Saint Francis softball team couldn't hold on to a lead in Game 1 on its way to dropping a Northeast Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Fairleigh Dickinson.

The Knights scored four unanswered runs in the first game and came away with a 6-4 victory, and then held the Red Flash to just two hits in a 5-0 Game 2 win.

SFU has now dropped eight straight games to fall to 7-27 overall, and 0-6 in the NEC. The Red Flash will return to action with a doubleheader on Sunday at Monmouth.

Sophomore Taylor Darneille was 3-for-4 with two runs scored in Game 1, while junior Paige Smith (Saugus, Calif./Valencia) was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and sophomore Karlie Miller was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Smith had an RBI double and Miller added an RBI single to give Saint Francis a 2-0 lead in the first inning. However, the Knights bounced back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Darneille led off with a single in the second inning and scored on another Miller single to make it 3-2. Darneille again led off with a single in the fourth and scored on a bases loaded walk by freshman Hannah Francis to give the Red Flash a 4-2 lead.

But FDU pulled within one with a run in the fifth, and then took the lead with three runs in the sixth inning.

Darneille doubled and freshman Ashley Thomas had a single to account for SFU's two hits in the second contest. The Red Flash couldn't get anything going offensively, and Fairleigh Dickinson scored one run in five different innings to take the game, 5-0.
