INDIANA, Pa. (May 1, 2011)
– Despite trekking 30 minutes north to Indiana University of Pennsylvania's Podbielski Field to host Quinnipiac for Senior Day, the inclement weather that has plagued the Red Flash for most of the spring tagged along. Rains caused lengthy delays throughout the afternoon, as the Bobcats swept “home standing” Saint Francis by scores of 2-0 and 11-3 (5 innings).

In the opener, Bobcats' pitcher Heather Schwartzburg made a pair of runs stand up, racking up 10 strikeouts while walking none to earn her 20th win of the season. Schwartzburg faced two batters over the minimum while allowing only two hits.

The outing overshadowed another solid effort by Flash pitcher Megan Layne (Vallejo, Calif./Rodriguez). The junior struck out six batters on her way to a tough-luck three-hit setback.

Mother Nature continued to toy with the Red Flash in the game, pushing back the first pitch of the contest from noon to 2:30 p.m., and then causing a lengthy rain delay in the middle of the second inning. All told, the game – which officially lasted an hour and 16 minutes, took over five hours to complete.

Quinnipiac's Jordan Paolucci scored the eventual game-winning run in the second inning on a two-out single by Kim Brzezinski. Lauren Salgado added an insurance run in the sixth.

Brianna Garcia and Taylor Darneille recorded the two SFU hits in the game.

Quinnipiac broke out the bats early in the day cap, with Paolicci delivering a three-run homer to highlight a three-hit inning. The Bobcats tacked on another three spot in the fourth, pounding out three hits and taking advantage of a trio of Red Flash errors to chase Layne, who was making her second start of the day.

The Red Flash answered with two runs in their half of the fourth as second baseman Ashley Thomas and pinch runner Misty Hammel came around to score on an error that also allowed Lane – who stayed in the game as a designated player – to reach base.

The Bobcats responded by hanging five runs on the board in the fifth to seal the win. SFU's Paige Smith (Saugus, Calif./Valencia) scored in the bottom of the frame as Thomas hit into a fielder's choice. Chelsy Consentino lined into a double play two batters later to end the game.

Saint Francis' lone senior Michelle Spisak (McKees Rocks, Pa/Sto-Rox) was honored in a pregame ceremony. Spisak started both games in centerfield.

The Red Flash will return to action on Wednesday when they host Wagner at noon.
