Tom Falbo has put the finishing touches on his second signing class, he announced on Thursday afternoon. The Red Flash will begin its second season of varsity competition when it takes part in the USBC Intercollegiate Tournament on Oct. 15.
“I'm pleased to announce this terrific class of 2011,” said Falbo. “These ladies come to us with such great talent and passion for the game. They will make an immediate and lasting positive impact on our program on and off the lanes. It's a pleasure to welcome them to our Saint Francis family.”
Annie Beliles (Verona, Pa./Penn Hills) (Verona, Pa./Penn Hills)
A two-time Keystone Junior Tour Champion, Beliles comes to Loretto with extensive regional and state tournament experience. At Penn Hills she was a member of Pennsylvania High School Champion teams in 2008 and 2010. In 2010, she also placed 13th in the state individually. Her high average is 192, while her high game and series are 256 and 671, respectively.
Beliles was a member of the National Honor Society as a junior and senior, earning a GPA of 4.0 during each term. She has been awarded the Founder's Scholarship for academic achievement and will major in Biology at SFU.
“Annie's great team experience is such a plus for her at this level,” said Falbo. “She knows how to win and has that strong motivation every time she steps on the lanes. Her classroom performance is stellar and expect her to excel during her career at Saint Francis.”
Lindsay Corner (Drexel Hill, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) (Drexel Hill, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara)
A member of Cardinal O'Hara's 2010 All-Catholic Championship team, Corner was named the league's Most Valuable Performer in addition to a spot on the All-Catholic First Team. She went on to capture a sixth-place finish, individually, at the 2010 Pennsylvania High School Championships with an average of 210.5.
Over her career, Corner has averaged a 193, including a high game of 289 and a high series of 697. She plans to major in Business Administration at the University.
“Lindsay is a player who is constantly trying to make her game stronger,” said Falbo. “Her development between her junior and senior year was tremendous and speaks to her work ethic. We welcome her kind of work ethic she shows on the lanes and in the classroom.”
Lauren Johnson (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast) (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast)
A two-time Kansas City Open and Southeast Nebraska Scholarship tournament champion, Johnson served as anchor and team captain for Lincoln Southeast High School in 2010. She was named all-state on two occasions and recently took 17th-place at the Teen Masters National Tournament. Her high sanctioned game is 279 and her high series sanctioned series is 714.
Johnson was a four-year honor roll student at Lincoln Southeast and has been awarded the Seed Scholarship in Entrepreneurship for Economic Development. She will enroll at SFU as a Business Administration major.
“Lauren is such a fine player and positive leader on the lanes,” said Falbo. “She has the right mental approach to the game and looking forward to seeing her grow as a player and student. As a student/athlete of SFU, she will have a bright four years ahead of her.”
Christina Leid (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata)
Leid placed eighth individually at the 2011 Pennsylvania State High School Championships averaging 206.3. Previously, she had earned a pair of 10th place finishes at the event. The Ephrata product also claimed the 2011 Eastern Pennsylvania Regional Individual Championship. Her high game is a 300 and her high series is 779.
Leid plans to major in Forensic Chemistry at Saint Francis.
“Christina has been a top performer during her high school career, and has enjoyed great success as a senior,” said Falbo. “She has such a solid, consistent approach that lends itself to high scores. She will have a great collegiate bowling career. As a top performer in the classroom, I look with excitement to see what she can achieve.”
Briana Ord (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) (Lititz, Pa./Warwick)
Ord anchored her team at Warwick High School to a fifth place finish at the Pennsylvania State High School Championships in 2011 to close out a stellar scholastic career. She took seventh place, individually at the event. She also earned a seventh-place finish at the 2011 USBC Pepsi State Championship and won 2011 USBC Pepsi Districts 2011, averaging 224. Her high game is a 289 with a high series of 728.
“Briana has such an instinctual game and a smooth-yet-powerful release,” said Falbo. “When Briana is in control of her shot she is fun to watch and tough to beat. She brings a great blend of individual and team experience and will be a great addition to our team.”
