Second half surge lifts George Mason past Red Flash

FAIRFAX, Va. (Sept. 13, 2011) – George Mason scored a trio of unanswered second-half goals to surge past the Saint Francis women's soccer team, 3-1, on Tuesday afternoon at George Mason Stadium.  The setback drops the Red Flash to 3-4 on the season as the Patriots improve to 1-3-2.

After a scoreless first half, SFU sophomore Ellie Gavin (Hilliard, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) staked the Flash to a one-goal lead in the 48th minute.  Gavin collected the rebound from a blocked shot and drove it in to the left side of the goal from 10 yards out.

Mason got on the board less than 12 minutes later on a tally from Casey Vornadore and took its first lead of the match at the 66:35 mark on a Liz Hodges goal.  A Saint Francis own-goal in the 80th minute set the final score.

The Patriots outshot the Red Flash 22-to-6 on the afternoon.  Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) paced Saint Francis with two shots, both of which were on goal.

The Flash travels to Lewisburg, Pa. on Saturday as it visits Bucknell for a noon match.
