Box Score

LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 13, 2011)
– The Saint Francis University women's volleyball team rolled to a straight sets win (25-13, 25-15, 25-21) over Coppin State Tuesday night at DeGol Arena.

"We continued on tonight with a good, aggressive style of play that we started developing this past weekend,” head coach Chuck Mullen said.  “We kept errors to a minimum and when you can do that and do some of the aggressive things we're doing, good results will come."

The Red Flash (4-8) got off to a dominant start as the opening set got underway. SFU went on a seven point run early on thanks to three consecutive kills from junior Elizabeth Williams (North Bend, Ohio/Saint Ursula) and three sequential service aces from classmate Lauren Wingard (York, Pa./Dallastown Area). After the Flash built up a sizeable lead, they never trailed in the set.

The second set saw continued solid play from the Red Flash as they earned the opening point in the set and maintained the lead en route to posting 13 kills and a .407 attack percentage. Coppin State (3-9) made things interesting in the third set as Saint Francis eyed the straight sets win. The majority of the third set went back and forth between the two squads. SFU built up a three point lead halfway through, but the Eagles managed a small run of its own to tie the set at 19. From there, Saint Francis picked up the final seven of nine points tallied in the set to cruise to the straight sets victory.

Junior Amanda Zahumensky (Sarver, Pa./Freeport Area) led the offensive attack for the Flash by posting a team-high nine kills with Williams' seven following closely behind. Sophomore setter Logan Meinert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) compiled 17 assists in the match, while classmate libero Brittany Stambaugh (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) led the defensive charge with seven digs.

Mullen will look for his 100th career win this weekend when the Flash participate in the two-day Lehigh/Lafayette Tournament beginning Friday at 6 p.m. against Lehigh.
