AKRON, Ohio (Sept. 2, 2011
) – The Saint Francis University women's volleyball team fell in straight sets during day one of the Akron Tournament Friday afternoon, first to host Akron (8-25, 19-25, 16-25) and later to Canisius (16-25, 25-27, 23-25).

Saint Francis (1-5) got off to a slow start in the first set, recording just eight points but drew closer in the remaining two sets played. Sophomore Leeanne Haus (Mars, Pa./North Allegheny) highlighted the Red Flash stat sheet when she registered 13 kills against Akron (2-4) and also picked up five digs, both team leading statistics and her first trek into the double digit kill mark this season.

"We put up a good fight in this match,” head coach Chuck Mullen said. “However, there are still inconsistencies in several aspects of our play that need worked on. Those inconsistencies are costing us chances at possibly winning."

In the later match of the afternoon versus Canisius (4-1), the Red Flash battled the Griffs neck and neck but were unable to pull out a set win. Despite the straight set loss, a few Saint Francis players made a splash on the score sheet. Leading the charge in terms of scoring, junior Elizabeth Williams (North Bend, Ohio/Saint Ursula) posted 12 kills and produced a .409 hitting percentage. Sophomore Breanna Kochinsky (Nicktown, Pa./Northern Cambria) came close to capturing her second double-double of the season as she finished the match with seven kills and a team-high 17 digs. Also coming just shy of what would have been her first double-double of the year was junior Lauren Wingard (York, Pa./Dallastown Area). Wingard registered a 10 kill and seven dig effort.

The Red Flash will go right back at it tomorrow afternoon when they conclude its stay at the Akron Tournament with a noon matchup against Bradley.
