Women's Cross Country Opens the Season with Solid Showing at Monmouth

SFU works on its time gap in opener

LINCROFT, N.J.
– The Saint Francis University women's cross country team opened its season Saturday at the Monmouth Invitational and finished sixth among the ten team competing.

"Solid season opener for the Red Flash,” head cross country coach Gordon Thomson. “We had some nice team work, but also identified the need for improved fitness."

SFU working on its time gap in the opener and the Red Flashes top five ran within a second of each other on the short Monmouth course. Sarah Grossi (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) led the way with a time of 16:11.5. She was followed by Jen Haffner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) (16.11.7), Feleisha Wright (Philadelphia, Pa./Jules Mastbaum) (16:11.9), Kylie Jackson (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) (16:12.1) and Katie Cianci (Greenville, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) (16:12.4).

Rebecca Webster (Lithia, Fla./Newsome) cross the line sixth for the Red Flash in a time of 16:37.4 and Hannah Reist (Cleona, Pa./Cedar Crest) rounded out the top seven finishing in a time of 16:38.5.

Saint Francis takes next weekend off and then will return to action Sept. 16 at the 33rd Annual National Catholic Championship on the campus of Norte Dame University.
