Early second half goal lifts Flash over Howard

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 7, 2011)
– The Saint Francis University men's soccer team picked up its second win of the season Wednesday night, defeating Howard 2-1.

“I don't think we were at our best today but we will take the win on the road against a tough team to play against,” head coach Michael Casper said. “This is the kind of game we need in order to get ready for difficult conference games on the road. We will take it and move on.”

The Red Flash notched the first goal of the game just over seven minutes into the contest. Senior Kingsley McLeod (Rocky Mount, N.C./Rocky Mount) took a steal from a Howard defender to nab his first goal of the 2011 season. The rest of the first half would remain scoreless.

Six minutes into the start of the second half, junior Makala Hairston (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall College) received a pass from Pablo Medina (Monterrey, Mexico/IMG Academies) and starting goalkeeper Darius Motazed (North Vancouver, Canada/Sentinel Secondary) to give the Flash all they would end up needing. The game winning tally is Hairston's first goal of the season.

Howard would add a goal of its own four minutes later, but SFU held on for the win. The Bison outshot the Red Flash by an 8-6 margin. Motazed played all 90 minutes in net and made two saves.

Saint Francis continues its four-game road trip this Saturday evening when they travel to Baltimore, Md. to take on the Loyola Greyhounds.
