MONTCLAIR, Va. (Jan. 29, 2012) – The upstart Saint Francis women's tennis team struggled to close out against a talented George Washington University squad and, as a result, was dealt a, 7-0, setback on Sunday.
“We had no problem developing rallies, but we continue to struggle finding opportunity and closing out points,” said Red Flash head coach Paul Tobin.
“Coach (Dawn) Buth does a great job developing aggressive players. They hit the ball hard forcing our women side to side. GW was very fit and had excellent court coverage, which is something we need to improve upon if we're going to challenge these established teams.”
The Colonials powered through doubles competition and maintained their momentum in singles play, taking all six positions in straight sets.
Saint Francis rookie
Nuria Valls (Durango, Mexico/Colegio Guadiana LaSalle) put up the most resistance at the no. 4 spot, falling, 6-2, 6-2, to sophomore Isabella Escobar.
