Wingard Reaches 1,000 Kills; SFU Takes Down FDU on the Road

BOX SCORE TEANECK, N.J. (Oct. 13, 2012) – Senior Middle Hitter Lauren Wingard (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) registered her 1,000th career kill as Saint Francis U took down Fairleigh Dickinson in three sets on the road (25-23, 25-23, 25-17).
 
The Red Flash improved to 8-12 overall and to 4-3 in Northeast Conference play, while the Knights fell to 7-13 on the year and to 3-4 in the NEC.
 
Saint Francis trailed by large margins in both the first and second sets. The Flash were able to muster comebacks in both sets then dominated the third frame.
 
"Resiliency describes the team today. We shook off big deficits in the first two sets with strong serving, minimal errors and unwavering determination,” said head coach Chuck Mullen. “They played like you would want an experienced group to play when there is challenges throughout the match."
 
Lauren Wingard (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) became the third player in Saint Francis women's volleyball history to reach 1,000 kills in her career and the first Middle Hitter to do so. Wingard finished the match with nine kills and 11 digs.
 
Amanda Zahumensky (Sarver, Pa./Freeport Area) led SFU with 10 kills, five digs, and two service aces. Elizabeth Williams (North Bend, Ohio/Saint Ursula) and Kayla Jeckell (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) each had nine kills apiece.
 
Kierstin Kiser (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) registered 33 assists and had a team-high three service aces to go along with 10 digs.
 
Saint Francis will travel to Sacred Heart tomorrow for a noon match, this will be the second match of three on the road for the Red Flash.
