Williams Reaches 1,000 Kills; SFU Earns Eighth Conference Win on Senior Day

BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 2, 2012) – Senior Elizabeth Williams (North Bend, Ohio/Saint Ursula) notched her 1,000th career kill as Saint Francis U routed Fairleigh Dickinson in four sets, 25-23, 24-26, 26-24, 25-11 on senior day.

SFU held a lead the majority of the first set, but FDU was able to stay with the Flash. With the frame all tied up at 19, Lauren Wingard (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) started a run for the Red and White with a kill.

Kayla Jeckell (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) fired off two consecutive aces and a kill which forced a Knights timeout. Wingard and Amanda Zahumensky (Sarver, Pa./Freeport Area) finished the set off with a kill each.

The second set had seven lead changes and 13 ties and the Knights needed extra time to win it. SFU's largest lead was only two at 12-10 after a kill by Amanda Zahumensky (Sarver, Pa./Freeport Area). She finished the set with seven, including four down the stretch.

Saint Francis trailed the entire third set until Kierstin Kiser (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) recorded a kill to make it 22-21 in favor of the Red Flash. Chelsea Easter (Burlington, Ontario, Canada/Notre Dame Roman Catholic) followed that up with a kill of her own and SFU eventually put it away in extra time.

SFU cruised to a 13-3 lead in the fourth set and proved to be too much for FDU to handle in the final frame.

Kayla Jeckell (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) led the Red Flash with 15 kills and three service aces. Amanda Zahumensky (Sarver, Pa./Freeport Area) finished with 14 kills in the match.

Elizabeth Williams (North Bend, Ohio/Saint Ursula) and Lauren Wingard (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) also finished in double-digit kills with 11 and 10, respectively.

Kierstin Kiser (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) tallied 49 assists and 12 digs in the match.

Saint Francis returns to action tomorrow afternoon as they take on Sacred Heart at 1 p.m. at DeGol Arena. The Pioneers are the current fifth seed in the NEC and will be fighting for the fourth and final playoff spot with SFU.
