Leid earns national honorable mention from NTCA

WICKLIFFE, Ohio (April 12, 2012) – Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year Christina Leid (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) can add one more accolade to her list of accomplishments from her freshman campaign as she earned an honorable mention from the National Tenpins Coaches Association's All-America teams.

"I am really grateful for having received Honorable Mention," Leid said. "There are a lot of great bowlers in the NCAA and I am excited to be competing with all of them."

Leid had a standout rookie campaign for the Red Flash in 2011-12. The Ephrata, Pa. native earned NEC Rookie of the Week honors twice during her freshman campaign and always seemed to be a threat to win the award week after week.

At the James Brown Invitational in February, Leid finished the tournament as the highest ranking individual in the field with a 223 five game average and took home first team all-tournament honors as well as most valuable bowler honors.

In terms of how she stacked up against fellow NEC rookies, the right hander ranked first among all rookies in NEC only matches with a 19.99 frame average, while her frame average of 19.22 in all matches had her fourth best among the league's top rookie competitors.

"It is rare for a freshmen to receive All-America honors," head coach Tom Falbo said. "Congratulations to her, and know she will continue to work hard to strengthen her play."

The teams and major award winners were announced at the NCAA Championship banquet held Wednesday night. Fairleigh Dickinson's Danielle McEwan took home the big award of the evening, winning Division I Player of the Year honors and Kutztown's Kayla Jones earned the same award for the Division II/III level.
