BOX SCORE SMITHFIELD, R.I. – (Oct. 12, 2013) The Saint Francis women's volleyball squad lost a hard fought battle with the Bryant Bulldogs 3-2 Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs improve to (7-16; 3-2) as the Red Flash fall to (2-16; 2-3).
Three SFU attackers tallied double digits in kills.
Kayla Jeckell (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) led the charge with 19,
Hannah Kutny (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) followed Jeckell with 17, and
Leeanne Haus (Mars, Pa./North Allegheny) tallied 10. Three Frankies also recorded double digits in digs.
Breanna Kochinsky (Nicktown, Pa./Northern Cambria) led the Red Flash with 22, followed by Kutny with 14 and Haus with 11.
Logan Meinert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) statted 26 assists and
Alanna Blenkarn (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Pickering) collected 21.
After losing the first two sets (29-27, 25-16) to the Bulldogs, Saint Francis mounted a comeback winning the third set (25-23). The set featured eight ties and five lead changes ending on back-to-back service aces by Jeckell, narrowing Bryant's lead 2-1.
The Bulldogs could not stop SFU's momentum as they bolted out to a 12-5 lead in the third set, forcing a Bryant timeout. The Red and White gradually let Bryant back into the game 24-23, but could not maintain the lead as SFU rallied back to claim the set (26-24).
Saint Francis had an early advantage in the final set, but could not match the Bulldogs intensity as they ended on a 7-2 run, winning the game 3-2.
The women's volleyball team remains on the road as they faceoff against Central Connecticut tomorrow at 1 p.m.
