BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. – (Oct. 5, 2013) The Saint Francis U women's volleyball team fought hard against Northeast Conference leader LIU Brooklyn, resulting in favor of the Blackbirds 3-0. Struggling to close a set the Red Flash (1-15, 1-2) gave the Blackbirds (10-6, 3-0) a scare throughout the game (21-25,17-25,20-25).
Hannah Kutny (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) led the match in kills posting 17; she averaged a .306 attacking percentage, marking an individual team-high. Tying a team individual-high, libero
Brittany Stambaugh (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) had three service aces while contributing three digs.
Breanna Kochinsky (Nicktown, Pa./Northern Cambria) stated 21 digs to lead the Red Flash. Junior
Alanna Blenkarn (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Pickering) tallied 33 assists.
The Red Flash controlled the early stages of the first set 3-1, forcing a LIU timeout after Kutny smashed a kill through the Blackbirds defense giving SFU a 14-11 lead. LIU Brooklyn regrouped following the timeout to edge-out Saint Francis 25-21. The second match reflected the first as Saint Francis held an early 3-1 advantage, forced 11 ties, and seven lead changes. LIU stayed on track as they derailed the Frankies in route to a 25-17 second set win. The Blackbirds powered through the third set allowing two ties in their 25-20 victory over the Red Flash.
Saint Francis held an advantage in the kill category totaling 41 to the Blackbird's 32.
The women's volleyball team continues conference play tomorrow as they face off against Saint Francis Brooklyn at 1 p.m. in the DeGol Arena.
