Harbridge Eclipses 4,000 and Sets Records In 10-7 Loss

BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa.  – Redshirt senior running back Kyle Harbridge (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) broke the single-season rushing record while also becoming the first Red Flash player to rush for 4,000 yards in a career Saturday against Wagner, but SFU fell 10-7 in a defensive struggle.

To define how dominating the defenses were for each team, 12 of the final 15 team possessions ended with a punt. The only exceptions? A Lorenzo Jerome (Sunrise, Fla./J.P. Taravella) forced fumble recovered by Cody Reimers (Wilson, N.Y./Wilson Central) and the two end-of-half possessions. The game had a different feel in the opening quarter. Harbridge opened the scoring with a 43-yard run to give the Flash a 7-0 lead. It's his 15th rushing touchdown of the season, breaking his school record from 2011.

It wasn't his only record from two years ago to fall. Harbridge broke his single-season rushing yard mark of 1,474 later in the first half. In the second half, he became the first Red Flash player to eclipse the 4,000-yard mark for a career.

A 26-yard field goal for Wagner made the score 7-3 with 5:04 remaining in the first quarter, and the Seahawks took the lead with the final score of the day midway through the second. Wagner capped an 18-play, 88-yard drive with a one-yard pass from Chris Andrews to Tyree Watkins.

Wagner fumbled once on the drive on an errant pitch, but Andrews recovered it. Later in the drive, it looked like Jerome had forced a fumble that SFU recovered, but the officials' ruled that the ground had caused the fumble. The drive continued and Wagner punched it in to take the 10-7 lead.

The defenses stole the show from there. The teams combined for just 156 yards of offense in the second half as every possession ended with a punt. Wagner only threw for 63 yards on the stout Red Flash pass defense as SFU recorded three sacks. Brandon Small (Clairton, Pa./Clairton) had one of the sacks. A week after pulling in two interceptions, he led all defenders with 14 tackles. Joe Laukaitis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St.Clair) and Terrace Bourne (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. Dupont) also had sacks. Bishop Neal (Clairton, Pa./Clairton) (11 tackles) and Asalemo Fruean (Waipahu, Hawaii/Waipahu) (10 tackles) also made it into double figures for the SFU defense.

Saint Francis closes the regular season at home next Saturday against Robert Morris. Kickoff for Senior Day is slated for noon.
