Bucknell Takes Game One 3-2; Weather Cancels Second Game

BOX SCORE LEWISBURG, Pa. (April 24, 2013) - Playing in its final non-conference games of the season, the Saint Francis U softball team dropped a 3-2 decision at Bucknell on Wednesday. Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was called in the top of the second due to lightning and heavy rain.

All of the scoring done in game one came in the first three innings of play. The Red Flash (22-23) struck first, plating a run in the top of the first inning. Karlie Miller (Wildomar, Calif./Temescal Canyon) drew a bases loaded walk that put SFU up 1-0 early on. Bucknell (16-28) managed two runs however in their half of the first, scoring on a Red Flash throwing error and a single through the left side of the infield.

Things were knotted up at 2-2 in the top of the second when Taylor Darneille (Fircrest, Wash./Wilson) led off with a solo shot to right field, her fourth long ball of the season. The Bison scored the eventual game winning run though in the bottom of the third on a solo shot of their own.

Chelsea Rex (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) evened her pitching record to 6-6 on the year after being dealt the loss in the circle. Rex tossed all six innings, struck out four and was charged with two earned runs.

The Red Flash collected just five hits in the ballgame, two of which came off the bat of Chelsy Cosentino (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area).

Prior to the second contest being called, SFU had built up a 5-0 lead in the game, scoring all five runs in the top of the second. Davina Kachnovitz (Bear, Del./Glasgow) was 2-for-2 with two RBI at that point but lightning and heavy rain moving in was enough for the game to be called and made unofficial.

Saint Francis hits the road for the final time in the regular season this weekend to battle conference foes Fairleigh Dickinson and Monmouth.
