SFU Swept by Monmouth on the Road

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (April 28, 2013) – Playing in its final Northeast Conference road games of the season Sunday afternoon, the Saint Francis U softball team dropped two at Monmouth. Final scores of the contests were 6-0 and 7-0.

In the bottom of the third in game one, the Hawks (30-14, 15-5 NEC) worked the bases loaded with nobody out. After a ground out and infield pop out gave the Flash (22-27, 4-12 NEC) two outs, a ball hit up the middle and a double off the center field wall allowed the Hawks to plate four runs in the inning.

Monmouth tacked on an additional runs in their halves of the fifth and sixth innings, scoring one run in each frame that gave them their six-run total.

The Flash collected five hits in the opening game, getting two each from Brianna Garcia (Riverside, Calif./Arlington) and Davina Kachnovitz (Bear, Del./Glasgow) and one off the bat of Samantha Thomas (Sterling, Va./Park View).

Chelsea Rex (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) dropped to 6-8 on the year after starting and going the distance in game one.

In game two, the Hawks produced some early offense and jumped out to a two-run lead in the bottom of the first from a long double that bounced off the wall in right center. It wasn't until the fifth inning that another run was scored. A pair of back-to-back Monmouth triples scored a pair of runs and put the Hawks up 4-0.

Monmouth added three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-0 lead.

Ketarah DeVries (Forreston, Ill./Forreston)' pitching record evened out at 15-15 after she took the loss in game two.

Saint Francis embarks on its final road trip of the season when they travel to Ohio on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader with the Akron Zips.
