SFU Drops Single Game Contest at Penn State

BOX SCORE UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (April 9, 2013) – Playing in a make-up game Tuesday night, the Saint Francis U softball team dropped a 4-1 decision to Penn State on the road.

Cassidy Bell connected on a solo shot to right field in the bottom of the first that gave Penn State (9-23) the early one-run lead in the game. In the third with a runner in scoring position, the Red Flash (16-16) took advantage of a throwing error by PSU's third baseman that tied the game at 1-1.

After Bell was intentionally walked in the next half inning, PSU's Macy Jones lifted a homerun of her own to left center that put the Nittany Lions up 3-1 after three full innings. Penn State tacked on a two-out insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single off the bat of Karlie Habitz.

Samantha Thomas (Sterling, Va./Park View) and Davina Kachnovitz (Bear, Del./Glasgow) collected hits in the top of the seventh but were left stranded on the base paths to end the game in a 4-1 Nittany Lion favor.

Getting her 20th start of the season in the circle for the Red Flash was Ketarah DeVries (Forreston, Ill./Forreston). DeVries tossed all six innings but surrendered the four PSU runs which caused her pitching record to fall to 11-10.

Karlie Miller (Wildomar, Calif./Temescal Canyon) went 2-for-3 in the game with a pair of singles.

Saint Francis returns home this Thursday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader with Cleveland State.
