Saint Francis Begins Final Home Weekend Against Sacred Heart

Game Notes    |    Live Stats    |    Live Video

Saint Francis welcomes the Sacred Heart University Pioneers to Loretto this afternoon for a pair of conference games. Last season on the road in Fairfield, Conn., the Red Flash swept the Pioneers by the final of 4-1 in both contests.

The Saint Francis/Sacred Heart series is still fairly new compared to others, having only played 23 games in the all-time series. The Red Flash have the upper hand 12-11.

SAINT FRANCIS' LAST TIME OUT...
On Wednesday the Red Flash wrapped up the road and non-conference portion of its schedule with a split doubleheader at Akron. The Zips took the first game 10-4 but SFU held on in game two to stake a 6-2 victory.
Chelsy Cosentino (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) picked up three hits on the day, bringing her season total to 61, a team-high number. She also drove in her team-leading 26th RBI of the year as well. Maggie Creciun (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) went a perfect 5-for-5 with a walk at Akron, showing off her speed to leg out a number of infield singles. Sabrie Neeb (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) launched two homeruns, one in each game, giving her six total, which ties her for the team lead.

SACRED HEART'S LAST TIME OUT...
Also bringing its non-conference schedule to a close on Tuesday was Sacred Heart. The Pioneers earned a two-game split with Manhattan at home. SHU won game one 2-1 but fell 6-4 to the Jaspers in the second game.
Saint Francis will have to pitch carefully to SHU's Annie Dreher who is batting .288 this season but owns the team lead with 10 homeruns. Sacred Heart's most consistent hitter thus far has been Nicole Sidor, hitting at a .364 clip in 2013.

COSENTINO EARNS ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT
For the first time in her career, Chelsy Cosentino (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) earned a selection to the Capital One Academic All-District first team. Cosentino is having a career year as her junior campaign nears its conclusion. On Wednesday she collected her 61st hit and 26th RBI of the season, both of which lead the Red Flash. Nearly all of Cosentino's offensive statistics in 2013 set new career-high marks including homeruns, doubles, triples and runs scored, just to name a few. She is an accounting major and holds a near perfect 3.95 grade point average. She will now move on to voting for Academic All-America honors.

HIT, RUN, SCORE
Davina Kachnovitz (Bear, Del./Glasgow) continues to be a staple to the SFU offense from all angles. The junior shortstop ranks third on the team in hits (43) and leads the way in runs scored (32) and is second in RBI (25). As evidenced by her offensive numbers, 13 drawn walks and 12 stolen bases this season, Kachnovitz finds ways to get on and get around the base paths to give SFU prime scoring chances game in and game out.

CLOSING THE SEASON
The Red Flash welcome Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac to Loretto this weekend to make up two NEC doubleheaders from back in March. This weekend's games will close out the 2013 regular season for Saint Francis. With four games remaining, the Flash will try to collect the team's best win total since it won 24 games back in 2008.

FRESHMAN MAKES HISTORY
Rookie pitcher Ketarah DeVries (Forreston, Ill./Forreston) earned her 16th victory of the season in a game two win over Akron on Wednesday. The win ranks her tied for third all-time in the Saint Francis single season record book. Additionally these are the most wins collected by a freshman SFU pitcher in program history.
