LORETTO, Pa. (Aug. 25, 2013) – Despite a dominant performance across the stat sheet, Saint Francis U could only salvage a 1-1 tie in its home opener against Morehead State Sunday.
The Red Flash let 21 shots fly with 10 of them on goal, but only one – a Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) marker in the 60th minute – found the back of the net.
The Eagles, who hung with Ohio State before falling 3-2 Friday, fired nine shots including Jade Flory's equalizer with seven minutes to go in regulation. MSU goalkeeper Kaitlynn Murphy had a busy afternoon with nine saves.
Saint Francis keeper Jessica Andrew (Doncaster, South Yorkshire UK/Balby Carr) wasn't tested often in the contest, making three stops.
McKibben led both teams with nine shots, followed by Flory with five. SFU rookie Korrin Hackenberg (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) flashed some offense off the bench with three shots on goal. Ellie Gavin (Hilliard, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) assisted on The Red Flash's only goal of the game.
The Red Flash heads south next weekend for a pair of non-conference matches as a participant in George Washington University's DC Invitational. SFU will take on Atlantic 10 member Virginia Commonwealth on Friday, before battling the host Colonials (also of the A-10) on Sunday.
