Red Flash Set Personal Records At The Furman Classic

GREENVILLE, S.C. – (Sept. 14, 2013) The Saint Francis U women's cross country team faced a challenging field at the 2013 Furman XC Classic placing ninth.

"We are running well and I'm very pleased with the efforts of out students-athletes" said Head Coach Douglas Hoover. Kylie Jackson (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) and Kyle Penney continue to run well up front for us. The rest of the runners are working hard to close the gap. But, as well as we did this was still a reminder of the level of competition we are up against.

Jackson led the Red Flash finishing 34th overall while setting a personal record 22:13.69 in the 6k. Scoring second for Saint Francis was Feleisha Wright (Philadelphia, Pa./Jules Mastbaum) posting a 23:31.66 placing her 70th.

Colleen Kelly (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) marked a personal best 23:43.79 finishing 75th. Madeline Berry (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) also set a personal record 23:46.98 completing the course 80th overall. Sara Vallelunga (Bridgeville, Pa. /South Fayette) scored the Red and White's final points finishing 91st while setting a personal record 25:25.86

Everyone really stepped up to the plate today and worked together to fill the gaps" said Kelly.

Saint Francis finished 23 points behind Northeast Conference foe Robert Morris.

The Red Flash next host the Father Bede Invitational on the Immergrun Course slatted for Sept. 28.
