BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis football team took a lead against a ranked opponent in the second half for the second time in three weeks Saturday, but No. 16 Fordham used a 21-point fourth quarter to defeat the Red Flash, 38-20, at DeGol Field.
Â
The Flash led 20-17 heading into the start of the final period thanks to three
Kyle Harbridge (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) rushing touchdowns. A week after tying his own school record with four, the redshirt senior tied the third highest touchdown total in a single game. He also rushed for 291 yards, the third most in a single game in school history.
Â
His first score brought the Flash back into the ballgame after the Rams (5-0) jumped out to a 14-0 lead. Harbridge accounted for all 75 yards on the drive, including the 67-yard score. SFU (1-3) missed the PAT, so the score remained 14-6 into the intermission.
Â
Harbridge had his fourth 100-yard game of the season in the half, rushing for 115 yards. Junior linebacker
Bishop Neal (Clairton, Pa./Clairton) led all defenders with eight tackles in the first half.
Â
Harbridge used another big run to pull the Flash to within 14-12 as his 66-yard carry set the table for a two-yard plunge on the very next play. SFU couldn't convert the two-point conversion to remain behind by two.
Â
After a Fordham field goal with 3:40 remaining in the period, Harbridge earned the hat trick with a 71-yard carry on the first play of the ensuing drive. The two-point pass from
Max Ward (Steelton, Pa./Middletown) to Harbridge was good to put the Flash ahead, 20-17.
Â
Fordham came back in the fourth. On the first play of the quarter, Michael Nebrich's scramble to his left ended with a 23-yard pass to Tebucky Jones in the back corner of the end zone. The two hooked up on the next drive for a 45-yard completion to set up Carlton Koonce's eight-yard touchdown run.
Â
A long punt return from Brian Wetzel set up the Rams' final score, a three-yard touchdown pass from Nebrich to Wetzel.
Â
Harbridge added four yards receiving and 89 return yards to finish with 384 all-purpose yards, the second highest total in school history. He passes Ted Helsel's 365 against Gallaudet on Nov. 3, 1979, to move into second place.
Â
The defense finished the game with five sacks, the fourth most in a single game in school history. Neal had one of the sacks among his 12 tackles and had 4.5 for a loss.
Jake DeMedal (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) had 10 tackles and
Dave Coleman (Montclair, Pa./Montclair) finished with nine, including eight solo stops.
Â
Asalemo Fruean (Waipahu, Hawaii/Waipahu) had a sack and a pair of quarterback hurries, while
Max Ma'afala-Maiava (Pearl City, Hawaii/Aiea ),
Semo Sila (Honolulu, Hawaii /Farrington) and
Terrace Bourne (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. Dupont) each registered a sack.
Â
The Flash moves into NEC play next weekend when it travels to Central Connecticut State for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff Saturday.
