SFU rebounds with 3-1 win over Oakland (Mich.)

BOX SCORE ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Saint Francis U women's soccer team broke out of its recent slump by brushing off Oakland (Mich.), 3-1, to close out its non-conference schedule Sunday.

The Red Flash (4-6-1) got on the board in the 10th minute as Barbara Maros de Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Coraco de Jesus) slipped the rebound from a Mackenzie Walter (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) shot past Grizzlies keeper Payj O'Shea.

Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) scored two more goals, including the eventual game-winner in the 35th minute on a shot from just inside the box that found its way into the net.  Her second tally of the day came in the 63rd minute with a header from a cross.  Ellie Gavin (Hilliard, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) assisted on both goals.

Rookie goalkeeper Jena Lafferty (Stewartstown, Pa./Garrison Forest) shined in her collegiate debut, shutting out Oakland in the first half.  Fellow rookie Abbey Collins (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) played the second half, allowing an 81st minute score by Alice Palmer.  The duo combined for six saves.

SFU opens up Northeast Conference play on Friday with a visit to LIU Brooklyn.  The match is scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m.
