The Red Flash rolls to 3-0 win over A-10 foe George Mason

BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 5, 2013) – Saint Francis U senior Ellie Gavin (Hilliard, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) gave The Red Flash a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute and junior goalkeeper Jessica Andrew (Doncaster, South Yorkshire UK/Balby Carr) made sure it would be all the offense SFU would need as it bested George Mason, 3-0, Thursday at the Stokes Soccerplex.

While Andrew was in the midst of a nine-save performance en route to her first career shutout, the Flash offense was able to post one more goal before the intermission and added a third in the 56th minute to ice the contest.

Joining Gavin in the scoring column was Eloá Nascimento (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Jose Maria Matosinho), who notched her first goal of the young season in the 32nd minute, and Alecia McNiff (Marietta, Pa./Donegal ) who closed out the scoring.  McNiff's goal was her second of season and took the sting off of an early point-blank missed opportunity for the senior.

Despite a game-high four shots, the Patriots (1-2-1) kept Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) in check – mostly.  The All-America candidate was still credited with assists on Gavin and McNiff's tallies to raise her season point total to 10.

Barbara Maros de Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Coraco de Jesus) provided the cross on Nascimento's goal and, likewise, Nascimento provided a second key touch on McNiff's score.

The Red Flash held a slim 15-to-14 edge in shots, but racked up six corners to Mason's two.

Saint Francis (2-2-1) begins a three-game road swing Saturday with a visit to Bucknell (2-2-0).
