YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (Sept. 6, 2013) – The Saint Francis U women's volleyball team suffered two setbacks in the Youngstown State Invite Friday.
In the first game Youngstown State (3-1) defeated the Red Flash (0-5) in their first four-set game of the season (21-25,18-25,25-23,14-25).
SFU trimmed the Penguin lead down to 19-18 in the first set, ultimately losing after Youngtown State's Alexis Egler hammered the set point past numerous Saint Francis defenders. The second set slipped away from the Red and White as Youngstown made several runs winning the set 25-18.
Winning their first set of the season 25-23, Saint Francis ended the Penguins threat forcing a fourth set. Jackie Carlisle finished the game for Youngstown 25-14 on her tenth kill of the game.
Outside-hitter Hannah Kutny (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) lead the game in kills registering 16 along with seven digs. Junior Kayla Jeckell (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) recorded 14 kills and senior Leeanne Haus (Mars, Pa./North Allegheny) tallied 12 kills respectively.
Junior setter Alanna Blenkarn (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Pickering) set a season high in assists marking 46.
The second match featured Saint Francis verses Toledo University. The Rockets (3-3) made quick work of the Frankies (0-6) winning in three sets (20-25,16-25,14-25).
Toledo edged out the Red and White in the first set 25-20. In the second set the Red Flash fell behind early allowing the Rockets to cruise to a 25-16 victory. The Rockets ended the hour and sixteen-minute match on a service ace by Alyson Ehrhardt, winning 25-14.
Jeckell led Saint Francis in kills with eight also stating three digs. Blenkarn finished the game with 20 assists.
The Red Flash look to claim their first win of the season against Tulane Saturday at 11 a.m. concluding the Youngstown State Invite.
