BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 10, 2014) – The Saint Francis U women's volleyball team fell to Northeast Conference foe Robert Morris, 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 14-25, 12-15), Friday evening at DeGol Arena.
The Red Flash set a season high of 94 team digs with five individuals posting double digits performances. Freshmen
Jenna Veres (Independence, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) and
Emily Marcinowski (Strongsville, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) led the Red Flash with 23 and 17 respectively, while
Kayla Jeckell (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) and
Hannah Kutny (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) each recorded 15.
Alanna Blenkarn (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Pickering) added 13, as well as a game high 49 assists. Jeckell recorded a season high 18 kills and Kutny contributed 19.
After rallying to take the first set, the Red Flash (7-12; 3-2) took an 18-12 second set lead and were on the verge of taking a 2-0 command of the match. But after a Robert Morris timeout, the Colonials (6-14; 4-0) went on a 13-5 run to win the set and tie things up at 1-1.
The Red Flash reclaimed the lead, 2-1, after taking the third set, 25-20. Saint Francis U began the set with a 13-5 run.
After the Red Flash pulled to within a point at 8-7 in the fourth set, Robert Morris used a 10-1 run to take command of the set, winning it 25-14 and forcing the winner take all fifth set.
The Colonials dominance became too much for the Red Flash, taking the set 15-12 and the match, 3-2, to win their 11th straight game over Saint Francis U.
Saint Francis U will continue their three-game home stand next Saturday October 18 at 3 p.m. when they battle LIU Brooklyn. They will finish out the home stand next Sunday October 19 against Saint Francis Brooklyn at 1 p.m.
