Red Flash improve to 3-1 in NEC play

BOX SCORE NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (Oct. 5, 2014) -- The Saint Francis U women's volleyball squad ended this weekend's action with a 3-1 victory over Central Connecticut State University Sunday afternoon. The Flash ranks third overall in the Northeast Conference standings following week two of conference play.
 
SFU (7-11; 3-1) spilt the first two sets with the Blue Devils (5-10; 1-2). The Frankies won the first set 25-23, while CCSU matched Saint Francis's performance in the second set winning 25-23. The second set featured 12 ties and five lead changes.
 
The third and fourth sets proved to back and forth affairs, favoring the Flash in both sets. SFU won both sets 25-21, claiming their third NEC win.
 
Hannah Kutny (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central), Kayla Jeckell (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) and Breanna Opera (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster ) all recorded double digit kill tallies in the victory. Jeckell and captain Alanna Blenkarn (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Pickering) both recorded three service aces apiece.
 
Blenkarn recorded 52 assists in the win, while freshman Jenna Veres (Independence, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) marked 24 digs.
 
Saint Francis returns home for a three game homestead starting Oct. 10 at 5 p.m. against the Robert Morris Colonials.
