BOX SCORE MOON TWP., Pa. – The Saint Francis football team knocked down another barrier Saturday afternoon at Robert Morris. The Flash had never won three consecutive games since moving to Div. I FCS in 1993. That is all in the past. The Red Flash defeated the Colonials, 40-7, at Joe Walton Stadium for its third win in a row. Running back
Khairi Dickson (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic) also surpassed
Kyle Harbridge (Easton, Pa./Easton Area)'s school record of 1,619 yards from last season with his 189 yards today. He now has 1,650 for the season.
Robert Morris jumped out to an early lead. After a short punt and the ensuing return, Robert Morris started at the Flash 8. Three plays later, Luke Brumbaugh connected with Justin Kempka for a 3 yard touchdown pass to make it 7-0. After a Dickson fumble, the Colonials had a chance to add to its lead. RMU drove to the SFU 26 for a fourth and short, but
Terrace Bourne (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. Dupont) and
Kaena Moose (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani School) stuffed Ryan Thermil for no gain and a turnover on downs.
Saint Francis took over from there, outscoring Robert Morris 20-0 in the second quarter. Running back
Marcus Bagley (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights), who was just added to the CFPA National Freshman of the Year watch list this week, took a pitch to the right sideline and went 36 yards for the touchdown. He carried tacklers past the pylon to tie the score at 7-7. Bagley had 62 yards in the first half and 87 for the game.
Dickson atoned for his fumble in a big way. He rushed for 60 yards on the Flash's next drive, including a 47-yard carry to the RMU 13. On the next play,
Zack Drayer (Hershey, Pa./Hershey ) found
Anthony Bowman (Damascus, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) in the right flat, and he plowed his way through several defenders into the end zone for a 14-7 Red Flash lead. Dickson had 128 yards in the first half and his 189 yards will do little to hurt his status as the leading rusher in the FCS.
The Flash added a quick field goal thanks to
Anthony Abeid (Youngstown, Ohio/Youngstown Christian) forcing a fumble and recovering it on the ensuing kickoff.
Lance Geesey (Harrisburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) capped the drive with a 34-yard field goal to make it 17-7 with 4:40 left in the first half. SFU played takeaway again.
DaQuan Minter (Johnstown, Pa./Greater Johnstown) had his fourth interception of the season and third in as many games on the Colonials' next possession. He returned it 43 yards to the RMU 32, and Geesey hit a 28-yard field goal on the final play of the half to make it 20-7.
The onslaught continued in the second half. Drayer found Abeid from 24 yards out to make it 27-7 with 7:53 to play in the third quarter. After an RMU fumble at the Flash 1 into the end zone that was recovered by
Bishop Neal (Clairton, Pa./Clairton), SFU drove 80 yards on 11 plays highlighted by a 45-yard pass to Bagley to the RMU 1. Dickson plunged in from a yard out to make it 34-7.
The Flash defense turned up the heat in the second half. After Neal's fumble recovery,
Dave Coleman (Montclair, Pa./Montclair) and
Malik Duncan (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic) each had interceptions for the Flash. Duncan's led to a 29-yard field goal by Geesey to make it 37-7 with 9:45 remaining. SFU had 16 points off turnovers.
Drayer finished 15-of-22 for 179 yards and two touchdowns to just one interception.
Lance Geesey (Harrisburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) hit four field goals for the second consecutive week as he continues to rewrite the kicking records at Saint Francis.
The Red Flash – one of the national leaders in red zone scoring efficiency – went 5-for-5 in the game. SFU also dominated time of possession, holding the ball for 39:33. The Red Flash outgained Robert Morris, 441-176.
Saint Francis is now 5-5 and can clinch its first Div. I winning season with a victory next week against Central Connecticut at DeGol Field.
