Brown leads charge in 102-69 win over Keystone

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis opened with a 10-0 run and led by 30 points midway through the first half as it cruised to a 102-69 win over Keystone College in its home opener Thursday night.

Led by a 24-point effort from senior forward Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter), the Red Flash had four of its five starters score in double figures as it totaled its sixth-highest scoring output in the 42-year history of the Stokes Athletics Center.

Brown also wrapped up 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season and the 21st of his career.

Saint Francis hit the century mark for the first time since it dropped an even 100 on Fairleigh Dickinson on Jan. 13, 1994 under former coach Tom McConnell, who happened to be a part of the announced attendance of 1,017.

Despite playing its only non-Division I opponent of the year, the Frankies still had to contend with some capable talent, including the game's high scorer, Duncan Lunsford.  Lunsford, a senior forward and All-America pick a year ago, poured in 25 points.

"No matter what division it is, basketball is basketball," said Brown. "I feel that this game gave us a since of confidence going into Maryland Eastern Shore. We just took on two tough teams and it means a lot to come back and get a victory."

After facing stout competition in its first two games of the season, SFU dominated in all phases of the game, outshooting the Giants 57 percent to 33 percent and holding a 53-to-33 advantage on the boards.  Paced by a game-high six from Greg Brown (Odenton, Md./Archbishop Spalding), the Flash dished out 19 assists, and wracked up seven blocks.

"We played some very distinct styles in our first two games and Keystone was no exception," said third-year SFU coach Rob Krimmel, who guided the Flash to its first win in the month of November since 2010.

"We knew coming into the game we had to defend the three-point line and take them out of transition – I thought early on we did that," Krimmel said.

The Red Flash remains at home to welcome Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday.  Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m.
