LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis softball team heads to the Capital Invitational in Washington, D.C., this weekend as it looks to continue its red-hot start to the 2014 season.

After 12 games, the Red Flash is hitting .352 as a team with a 1.020 on-base plus slugging percentage. That Hall of Fame worthy batting average is second in the NCAA, trailing Arizona's .389 team average. SFU is also averaging just over eight runs per game, good for third in the nation. Arkansas is leading the country with a 9.29 runs per game average.

The Red Flash (10-2) has four regulars batting over .400, with seniors
Chelsy Cosentino (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) (.472) and
Davina Kachnovitz (Bear, Del./Glasgow) (.424) leading the way. Freshman
Alexis Bower (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) is batting .421 and
Sabrie Neeb (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) is hitting an even .400. Kachnovitz's .578 on-base percentage is also ranked in the top-10 in the NCAA.

The success isn't just on offense, either. Saint Francis' pitching staff has a 1.95 ERA with a 1.23 WHIP.
Ketarah DeVries (Forreston, Ill./Forreston)' 1.15 ERA is currently 41st in the nation and fourth in the NEC. She's also 4-0 with a WHIP under one. The Red Flash has put four pitchers in the circle thus far, and none of them have an ERA above 2.85.

The Red Flash faces tournament host George Washington tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in the first of five games this weekend.
