BOX SCORE 2 LEXINGTON – Freshman
Alexis Bower (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) hit a three-run homer in the first inning of the Saint Francis softball team's first game Saturday against Kent State, but the Flash couldn't hold on as the Golden Flashes came back for an 8-3 victory.
Â
The Red Flash (14-7) got off to a quick start in the top of the first, as shortstop
Davina Kachnovitz (Bear, Del./Glasgow) led off the game with an infield single. After Kachnovitz stole second,
Samantha Thomas (Sterling, Va./Park View) walked to bring Bower to the plate. She lifted her third home run of the season to left field to give the Flash a 3-0 lead. That gives Bower 25 RBIs in 21 games to begin her collegiate career.
Â
Kent State got one of those runs back in the second and took the lead with a four-run third inning. It added insurance runs late to finish the scoring. In game two, Kansas scored three runs in the second and had a seven-run third inning. Saint Francis fought back with runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Â
In the fourth,
Chelsy Cosentino (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) walked after one out.
Sabrie Neeb (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) doubled her to third and
Taylor Parsons (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle) ripped an RBI single to left center. Neeb's fourth double of the season lifted her slugging percentage to .589, third best on the club.
Â
Lindsey Reid (Bear, Del./Caravel Academy) was hit by a pitch to lead off the fifth and scored three batters later on Cosentino's double down the left field line.
Â
Saint Francis finishes its weekend at Kentucky with a game against Fairfield at 10:00 a.m. The Flash defeated the Stags, 6-5, in yesterday's game.
