Softball Gets Comeback Win Friday

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 LEXINGTON – The Saint Francis softball team earned a come-from-behind victory against Fairfield on Friday on the first day of its weekend trip to the University of Kentucky. The Flash defeated the Stags, 6-5, on a Samantha Thomas (Sterling, Va./Park View) RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Fairfield jumped ahead with a three-run third inning, but the Flash responded with an Alexis Bower (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to score Lindsey Reid (Bear, Del./Caravel Academy). Aly Ramsaier (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) reached on an error allowing Taylor Parsons (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle) to come home with SFU's second run in the fourth inning to make it 3-2.

The big blast came in the fifth, with Sabrie Neeb (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) launching her team-high fourth home run of the season. It was a three-run shot, bringing Chelsy Cosentino (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) and Alexis Bower (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) home with her to give the Flash the 5-3 lead.

Fairfield hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to tie the score, but Cosentino and Neeb reached base to lead off the bottom half of the seventh. After Parsons successfully sacrificed the runners into scoring position, Thomas singled through the left side to give the Flash a walk-off win.

In game two, the Flash lost to No. 8/10 Kentucky, 10-2, in six innings. Davina Kachnovitz (Bear, Del./Glasgow) got the Flash on the board in the first, singling up the middle and coming home on Parsons' bases loaded walk. Down 3-1, the Flash added a run in the third inning on Neeb's double to right center. Bower scored on the play after leading off the inning with a walk.

SFU is back in action for two games Saturday, playing Kent State at noon and Kansas at 4:00 p.m.
