Softball Shuts Out Fairfield

BOX SCORE LEXINGTON – Seven different Red Flash players scored a run as the Saint Francis softball team shut out Fairfield, 9-0, in the team's final game at the University of Kentucky this weekend.

Three of those runs came home in the top of the first. Samantha Thomas (Sterling, Va./Park View) walked and stole second after one out and came home to score on an Alexis Bower (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) RBI single to make it 1-0. Later in the inning after two outs, Taylor Parsons (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle) had a two-run single to score Bower and Chelsy Cosentino (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area), who had also singled.

Bower was in the circle, and those three runs were more than enough. She didn't allow a Stag run to score while giving up just four hits. Bower struck out five hitters on the day in her five innings of work.

Davina Kachnovitz (Bear, Del./Glasgow) helped the Flash add to its lead in the third. After leading off the inning with a double to left center, Thomas sacrificed her to third. After Cosentino was hit by a pitch to put runners at the corners, Kachnovitz stole home to make it 4-0. Sabrie Neeb (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) followed with a double to left center to score Cosentino.

The Flash (15-7) piled on in the sixth to invoke the mercy rule. Parsons singled to score Kelsie Marconi (Lowber, Pa./Yough). Parsons and Kaylyn Andress (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) then executed a double steal to make it 7-0. Kate Blattenberger (Martinsburg, Pa./Central) doubled home Parsons to make it 8-0, and she scored on her own on another double steal.

The Flash travel to Bucknell on Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader. The games were moved on Sunday to Bucknell after being originally scheduled for Saint Francis.
