BOX SCORE 2 STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Taylor Parsons (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle) had two RBI doubles and
Alexis Bower (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) allowed just two hits over six innings as the Saint Francis softball team shut out Wagner, 4-0, in the first game of the team's doubleheader on Saturday. Wagner came back to take game two, 4-3.
Wagner had baserunners reach in just two innings, getting both of its hits in the bottom of the third and having another reach on an error in the sixth. In both cases, the Seahawks left empty handed.
The Flash took the lead in the fourth after two outs.
Kate Blattenberger (Martinsburg, Pa./Central) singled and
Lindsey Reid (Bear, Del./Caravel Academy) reached on an error. After a wild pitch,
Maggie Creciun (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) singled up the middle to score both runs. In the fifth,
Sabrie Neeb (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) and Parsons each doubled after two outs to give the Flash a 3-0 lead. Pinch runner
Kelsie Marconi (Lowber, Pa./Yough) came around to score the run.
In the seventh, Bower led off with a single and moved to second on a
Chelsy Cosentino (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) walk. After an out, Parsons doubled to right to chase Bower to the plate.
Bower struck out five while walking just two in her six innings.
Blaire Lauthers (Doylesburg, Pa./Fannett-Metal) worked a perfect seventh inning to cap the victory.
Wagner scored two runs in the bottom of the first of game two, but the Flash responded in the third. Creciun led off with a single and Cosentino walked to set the table for Neeb. She ripped a double to center to bring both runners home to tie the score at 2-2.
The Red Flash jumped ahead in the fourth with Creciun again coming through. Blattenberger walked and was sacrificed to second base by Reid, and Creciun's two-out single put SFU ahead, 3-2. But Wagner responded in the fifth with a two-out, two-run homer to leapfrog ahead, 4-3, with what would prove to be the final score.
The Flash (20-12, 3-1) continues its journey through the boroughs with a trip to LIU Brooklyn tomorrow for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
