BOX SCORE 2 YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Saint Francis softball team split a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Youngstown, winning game one 6-3 and losing the nightcap, 4-3.
Alexis Bower (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) and
Samantha Thomas (Sterling, Va./Park View) each had two hits in the victory for the Flash (19-11). Thomas added three more hits in the second game.
Davina Kachnovitz (Bear, Del./Glasgow) led off the game with a walk and scored the first run of the game on Bower's RBI single up the middle. She later scored on a double steal with
Chelsy Cosentino (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) who reached via walk.
Sabrie Neeb (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) flied out to right, allowing Cosentino to advance and score with the help of an error to make it 3-0 before the Penguins were able to hit.
The Flash scored two more unearned runs in the second.
Aly Ramsaier (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) and
Lindsey Reid (Bear, Del./Caravel Academy) each scored on Thomas' single up the middle to make it 5-0. The Penguins scored two runs in the bottom of the third to make it 5-2, but Bower got a run back with her team-leading sixth homer of the season in the top of the fifth.
Bower earned her 11th victory of the season by allowing just three runs and striking out four in going the full seven innings.
The Flash took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third of game two after Thomas singled and stole second. She scored on the first of Cosentino's two hits on the night. After the Penguins scored two in the third and two in the fifth, the Flash came back in the sixth with two more runs.
Maggie Creciun (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) doubled home Neeb to make it 4-2 and
Taylor Parsons (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle) scored on a groundout by
Kindra Witthus (Hudson, Wis./Hudson). Cosentino singled in the seventh and
Kelsie Marconi (Lowber, Pa./Yough) pinch ran, but the Flash couldn't push the tying run across.
The Flash get back into NEC play this weekend, traveling to Wagner on Saturday and LIU Brooklyn on Sunday.
