BUFFALO – Saint Francis junior bowler
Shelby Derr (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) capped an outstanding week at the USBC Junior Gold Championships this week with a seventh place finish out of more than 600 bowlers in the Under-20 Girls Division. After losing her first match in the 16-player Match Play tournament, she won in rounds two and three before being eliminated.
"Shelby was at the very top of the leaderboard all week and remained their through the final advancers round," SFU head coach
Tom Falbo said. "She won two rounds convincingly against good players. It was a great week for her. She has worked very hard on her game to become one of the top players in collegiate and youth competition."
Derr cruised into the U20 Division Match-Play Final Round of 16 by scoring a 1,018 in five Advancers Round games and scoring a 911 in the Final Advancers Round.
In Wednesday night's third round of qualifying, she posted the highest score in the division with a 1,159 in five games for a 231.8 average. Her high game came in the last one of the night, bowling a 278. Â After starting that game with two spares, she recorded strikes in every frame thereafter.
