BOX SCORE KALAMAZOO, Mi. (Aug. 30, 2014) – The Saint Francis U women's volleyball team concluded action at the Bronco Classic with a 3-1 loss to the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies.
The Red Flash (0-3) battled back-and-forth with the Golden Grizzlies (2-2) in the first set that featured 10 ties and five lead changes. Ultimately, Oakland had the upper hand winning the first set 25-18. Captain,
Hannah Kutny (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) led the attack for the Flash with six kills.
The Golden Grizzles edged out SFU in the second set 25-22, entering the third set with a 2-0 lead.
Down 2-0 Saint Francis battled back into the match with a strong 25-22 third set win. The Frankies marked their highest attacking percentage of the game in the set .481. Four SFU attackers had three or more kills in the set.
Oakland doused SFU's momentum with a 25-16 fourth set win.
Kutny led the Flash in kills with 15 and points with 15.5, while
Kayla Jeckell (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) led Saint Francis in digs with 16. Captain
Alanna Blenkarn (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Pickering) registered 40 assists in the contest.
Saint Francis returns to action Sept. 5 traveling to Baltimore, Md. for the Loyola volleyball tournament.
