BOX SCORE HARRISONBURG, Va. (Sept. 13, 2014) - Behind another strong effort from junior running back
Khairi Dickson (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic), the Saint Francis U football team put up a strong effort against James Madison for the second consecutive season, but fell, 38-22, on Saturday evening.
Dickson ran for 216 yards while carrying the ball a career-high 39 times, while also scoring SFU's first touchdown of the day in the first quarter. The FCS leading rusher went for over 200 yards for the second time in three games already in 2014.
The Red Flash (1-2) held a 15-7 lead at the end of the first quarter after
Marcus Bagley (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) hit paydirt for the second time in his rookie campaign and
Matt Camilletti (Bangor, Pa./Pius X) rushed in the two-point conversion try.
The Dukes (2-1) then scored two touchdowns and a field goal before the halftime break and took a 24-15 lead into the locker room.
Saint Francis struck first in the second half as
Zack Drayer (Hershey, Pa./Hershey ) threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to
Anthony Abeid (Youngstown, Ohio/Youngstown Christian) and SFU was within two points. Drayer earned his first collegiate start under center after
Max Ward (Steelton, Pa./Middletown) suffered a lower-body injury last week against Clarion.
James Madison pulled away late in the third quarter sparked by a 76-yard touchdown run from quarterback Vad Lee. The Dukes followed up with another rushing touchdown on its next drive to take the 38-22 lead, which would be the final.
DaQuan Minter (Johnstown, Pa./Greater Johnstown) earned his first interception of the season on JMU's first drive in the fourth quarter hoping to give the Flash some momentum in the final quarter.
Drayer finished 11-21 on the day with 128 yards through the air, while adding 24 rushing yards. Abeid led all receivers with 44 yards on three receptions,
Terell Smith (West Haverstraw, N.Y./North Rockland) posted three catches for 35 yards, and
William Martin (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Twp. ) caught three balls for 29 yards.
On the defensive end,
Bishop Neal (Clairton, Pa./Clairton) led all players with 14 tackles and a sack. Freshman
Malik Duncan (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic) posted a season-high eight tackles,
Semo Sila (Honolulu, Hawaii /Farrington) and Minter both tallied seven.
Saint Francis hits the road for its final non-conference away game as it plays Youngstown State at 7 p.m. next Saturday.
