NEW BRITAIN, CONN. (Sept. 27, 2014) -- The Saint Francis U women's cross country team turned heads finishing third at the Ted Owen Invite. The Red Flash previewed the Northeast Conference Championship course Saturday morning. In a field that featured 16 teams, Saint Francis's third place finish positioned them in front of every NEC school excluding Sacred Heart. The Pioneers placed second in the race beating the Flash by 33 points.
Saint Francis's number one runner
Kylie Jackson (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) and Sacred Heart's number one athlete Emma Bolduc battled throughout the 5k course. Bolduc edged Jackson out at the finish line to place third at the meet.
Jackson clocked in at 17:41.66. Following Jackson was freshman
Hannah Dorian (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) placing 15th overall.
Morgan Kiebler (Export, Pa./Kiski Area),
Danae Peters (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central), and
Madeline Berry (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) closed out the SFU top five. The trio finished within 22 seconds of each other.
The Frankies averaged 18:45.70, while their NEC foe Sacred Heart averaged 18:20.92.
The Flash was picked to finish sixth overall in the NEC preseason poll.
Boston University won the meet with 33 points.
