Red Flash Draws Against Golden Griffins, 0-0

BOX SCORE BUFFALO, N.Y. (Sept. 28, 2014) -- The Saint Francis U men's soccer team drew a 0-0 tie with the Canisius College Golden Griffins Sunday afternoon.

"I think a 0-0 tie is a fair result today," said head coach Michael Casper. "Both teams played hard, but just didn't have enough to get a goal. I am pleased with the clean sheet on the road and happy with the way the guys are battling. We will continue to work on the offensive side of the ball to give us more chances to convert."

Saint Francis (5-3-1) cooled off a dangerous Golden Griffin (5-2-1) squad in the tie. Canisius were winners of their last five matches, including wins over Northeast Conference foes Robert Morris University and Bryant University.

SFU keeper Andrew Garcia (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek Regional) put on a clinic between the pipes at the Demske Sports Complex. The Sicklerville, N.J. native faced 26 shots by Canisius strikers, eight coming on goal.

Garcia earned his fifth shutout of the season.

Senior Ryan Byers (Scottdale, Pa./Southmoreland) attempted two shots, one coming on goal.

Sophomore Francis de Vries (Christchurch, New Zealand/Cashmere) chipped in two shots in Sundays contest.

The trigger-happy Golden Griffins fired 26 shots in the contest, 18 ended up off target.

The Red Flash had six players see action off the bench.

Saint Francis returns to Loretto, Pa. Oct. 1 to faceoff against Marshall University.
