EMMITSBURG, Md. – Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) had a season-high 13 rebounds and his fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and
Malik Harmon (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) scored a game-high 15 points off the bench, but the Saint Francis men's basketball team lost at Mount St. Mary's, 52-40, Saturday afternoon.
If one play epitomized the game, it came on
Greg Brown (Odenton, Md./Archbishop Spalding)'s three pointer with six minutes left and the Flash down, 44-33. His shot from the right wing went halfway down, rattled out, hit the backboard and bounced off the rim again and came off to a Mountaineer. The Flash (10-9, 4-4) just couldn't take the lid off the basket, shooting 30.4 percent from the field and making 2-of-20 from beyond the arc.
But even though the Flash had difficulty scoring, its strong defense kept the team within striking distance of the Mount throughout. Even after Brown's miss, Harmon hit two free throws and nailed a three pointer to cut the deficit to 44-38 with 4:43 to play. On the Mount's next possession, though, a three pointer from Gregory Graves pushed the lead back to nine while starting a 7-0 run to put the game out of reach in the final minutes.
Harmon scored seven straight points in a two-minute span midway through the first half to give the Flash its largest lead of the day at 15-9 with 9:31 to play. A Chris Martin jumper in the final seconds of the half sent The Mount to the dressing room with a 23-22 lead.
Mount St. Mary's (9-10, 5-3) held onto that lead throughout the second half, but it couldn't shake completely free from the Flash.
Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) had a thunderous dunk to cut the deficit back to three with 16:14 to play. A few minutes later,
Basil Thompson (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) and a steal and breakaway slam to make it 33-29.
Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter)'s layup on the next possession cut the lead to 34-31 with 12:05 to play, but The Mount pushed back with the next six points.
Earl Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) added three steals and
Ollie Jackson (Dallas, Texas/Pinkston ) came to within one point of 700 in his career. He'll look for that milestone Thursday night when the Flash hosts Bryant at 7:00 p.m.
