UNIVERSTIY PARK, Pa. (Jan. 31, 2015) -- Following a four-game homestead at DeGol Arena the Red Flash traveled to University Park to square off against Penn State (2-6; 1-0). The Saint Francis men's volleyball program dropped an intense three set battle to the Penn State Nittany Lions 3-0 Saturday night.
Saint Francis dropped all three sets to Penn State 25-18. The Red Flash showed their best form in the third set, hitting the ball as a team at a .444 clip. SFU committed one attacking error in the third set compared to five from the Nittany Lions.
The Red Flash used a 7-4 run to grab a 10-9 lead over Penn State in the second set, but lost form late in the match letting the Nittany Lions close on a 6-1 run. The third set featured another strong Red Flash showing early on, but watched it fade at 17-17. Penn State finished off the Frankies on an 8-1 run.
Freshman
Shaughn McDonald (Coraopolis, Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart) recorded the lone service ace in the match for the Flash.
Stephen Braswell (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) and
Jeff Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) recorded 11 points in the game. Braswell marked 11 kills in the contest in 20 total attempts. Stephen led the Flash in attacking percentage crushing the ball at a .500 clip.
Daniel Ford (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) led the Frankies in assists (24) and digs (7).
Saint Francis is still in search for their first victory against the Nittany Lions. Penn State holds a 36-0 mark against the Flash dating back to 1985.
Catch the Red Flash back in action at DeGol Arena Feb. 13 against George Mason. The game is slated to tip off at 7 p.m.
