BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Feb. 13, 2015) --- The Saint Francis U men's volleyball team defeated the George Mason Patriots 3-1 Friday afternoon in front of a peppy crowd in DeGol Arena. The Red Flash improve to 1-1 in conference play and enter February undefeated.
George Mason opened up the first set with a surge of energy, cruising to a 25-20 win. The Flash responded with a 25-21 second set win. The second set featured an 18-18 tie and looked to favor the Patriots, but Saint Francis ended the set on a 5-to-3 run overcoming a feisty GMU team.
Entering the third set SFU and GMU battled back and forth and managed a 10-10 tie before the Flash poured on the heat. Saint Francis ended the match on a 15-to-7 run to earn a 2-1 set lead over the Patriots.
With the first win of the season in sight the Red Flash struggled to lead the fourth set, but tied up the game late and eventually forced extra sets and earned the win.
Saint Francis marked a season high attacking percentage .391 against the Patriots as well as three players with double-digit kills.
Mike Marshman (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) led the team in attacking percentage (.769) earning 10 kills on 13 attempts.
Stephen Braswell (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) and
Jeremy Gaston (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) led the SFU squad in kills with 12 apiece.
Daniel Ford (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) gathered 35 assists and 11 digs to lead SFU in both categories.
